January 17, 2025 — Director Kristen Lewis presented Measure of America’s recent research on youth disconnection at the U.S. Conference of Mayors Workforce Development Council Annual Winter Meeting, as well as to the National Association of Workforce Boards, in Washington, DC. This presentation highlighted findings from Broad Recovery, Persistent Inequity, including recent national trends and changes over the past decade.
Nov. 14: Nonprofit New York Annual Conference
November 14, 2024 — Alex Powers and Kristen Lewis presented at Nonprofit New York’s annual conference. They shared how organizations can leverage data and did a walkthrough of how to use DATA2GO.NYC, our online tool which brings together federal, state, and city data on a broad range of issues critical to the well-being of all New Yorkers.
Oct. 28-30: Aspen Institute OYF Conference
October 28-30, 2024 — Measure of America’s Kristen Lewis and Alex Powers presented at the Aspen Institute’s Opportunity Youth Forum convening. One session, presented in partnership with Newark Opportunity Youth Network, focused on how the human development approach is a powerful tool for understanding youth well-being and access to opportunity, with a specific focus on the work we partnered on in Newark. We discussed the results of our research as well as its implications for the broader ecosystem of service providers, philanthropists, educators, advocates, and policymakers in Newark. The second Measure of America OYF session focused on our latest national-level work on youth disconnection.
Sept. 12: Congressional Briefing on Opportunity Youth
September 12, 2024 —Measure of America Director Kristen Lewis briefed the Bipartisan Opportunity Youth Caucus on Capitol Hill. She presented key data on the state of youth disconnection in America. Staffers from 22 congressional offices attended.
July 30: Hilton Foundation Convening on Opportunity Youth
July 30, 2024 — Co-founder and Director Kristen Lewis is representing Measure of America at Collaboration Across Place: Building Better Futures with Opportunity Youth, hosted by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation in Mexico City.
June 25: Newark Funder Affinity Group And Newark Education Funder Group Joint Meeting
June 25, 2024 — Associate Director Alex Powers and Program Assistant Tara Shawa present the key findings of our report, A Portrait of Newark, to an audience of grantmakers in Newark, New Jersey. They co-presented with Robert Clark from Newark Opportunity Youth Network and two youth leaders, and engaged in discussion about agendas for action based on the data. May 21: Aspen Opportunity Youth Forum Boston
May 21, 2024 — Associate Director Alex Powers and Program Assistant Kate Harvey led a session at the Aspen Institute’s Opportunity Youth Forum Convening to present findings on youth disconnection in cities and how data can be leveraged to enact policy and organizational change. They co-presented with Andy Moore from the National League of Cities and Daniel Croson from the Newark Opportunity Youth Network.
April 24: A Portrait of Newark Launch Event
April 24, 2024 — The Measure of America team hosted a launch event for A Portrait of Newark alongside the Newark Opportunity Youth Network. Director and Co-founder Kristen Lewis and Associate Director Alex Powers presented the key-findings of the report, and several young people from Newark co-presented about their experiences in Newark.
March 26: Bipartisan Opportunity Youth Caucus Launch
March 26, 2024 — Rep. Steel and Rep. Carter formed a new Bipartisan Opportunity Youth Caucus (BOYC). This is the first congressional caucus focused on investing in opportunity youth. MOA director, Kristen Lewis, spoke at the launch event. Watch here.
